There is a partial solution to the declining availability of fish and the need for DHA/EPA in our human diet as we continue to fish our oceans to death.
Could we substitute vegetable oil? Not really. Only a fraction of what we need as humans is converted by our body to usable DHA/EPA.
Solution? Algae and terrestrial plants could be genetically modified to produce necessary DHA/EPA. (1)
Do I recommend this? Not now. But neither you nor I can predict the future. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to this and that we can manage our infinite planetary resources better.
