The current use of hormones such as testosterone and hGH for rejuvenation is increasing with the aging of the US population. But steroid therapy does not come without risks.

Injections of testosterone and anabolic steroids are known to suppress natural testosterone production which could lead to severely lowered sperms counts. This is not good news for men desiring children at a later age and  who may be unaware of the side-effect profile of hormones injected at anti aging rejuvenation centers.

But there is some hope. Therapies that protect against low sperm count involve human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) therapy and selective estrogen receptor modulators.

Current studies examining the effect of human growth hormone (hGH) on infertile men are uncontrolled and unconvincing, and they do not appear to negatively impact lowered sperm count. At present, the routine use of aromatase inhibitors is not universally recommended because of the lack of long-term data. But the reality is that aromatase inhibitors are widely prescribed in conjunction with testosterone therapy.

There is no question that Testosterone and anabolic androgenic steroids have well-established detrimental effects on sperm count, but recovery may be possible with cessation.

Further, Clomiphene citrate, human growth hormone (HGH)/insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), and aromatase inhibitors do not appear to have significant negative effects on sperm production, but quality data is currently lacking.

Be sure to discuss these issues with our physician prior to beginning an anti aging programs based on hormonal regulation.

Yours in Health!
